Albania (official name: Republic of Albania, Albanian: Republika e Shqipërisë) – also known Shqipëria (literally: Land of the Eagles) – is a state of the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe. Bordered to the north-west by Montenegro, to the north-east by Kosovo and Macedonia, to the east and south by Greece, its coastline facing the Adriatic Sea (the Strait of Otranto) and the Ionian Sea.

Albania is a parliamentary republic, the current Prime Minister is Sali Berisha (since 2005), the President is Bamir Topi (since 2007). The country’s official language is Albanian.
